Commission Held Short Weekly Meeting

The Greenwood County Commission held a 49-minute meeting on Monday, Oct. 5, where they discussed routine weekly business items, held two executive sessions, and heard from Brandon Mann with Kansas Workers Risk Cooperative for Counties (KWORCC).

During the Road and Bridge report, the commission discussed the Milner Ford in northern Greenwood County. Commissioner Roy Ballard stated that both ends of that bridge wash out continuously. Concern was then shared about the inability to cross the road with a truck and trailer due to the road angle. “Every time it floods, we are spending money to fix it,” stated Ballard. Supervisor Allen Greenwood planned to look into the matter.

The commission held two five-minute executive sessions with County Counselor Paul Dean and Road and Bridge Supervisor Greenwood on legal matters involving contractors. No action was taken.

Noxious Weed Director Debi Selfridge provided a brief report, and the commission noted that she should keep looking into various mowers.

Mann with KWORCC provided an overview of the county’s workers’ compensation safety policies and premium discounts. He also reviewed various classes that the company offers that would benefit county employees.

The commission approved the Sept. 28 meeting minutes and Oct. 5 special payables, totaling $27,423.68, as presented.

Vice Chair Judd Everitt ran the meeting because Commission Chair Preston Evenson was unable to attend.

Following the meeting, the commission held a work session with department heads to review Section 20 of the employee policy handbook.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, at 9 a.m. and will be followed by the monthly Eureka Township meeting.
