During a special assembly last Friday afternoon, seniors Cooper Roberson, son of David and Whitney Roberson and Maela Neill, daughter of Clark and Laura Neill, were named as the 2026 Eureka High School Homecoming King and Queen.
The other candidates, all seniors, included: for King, Christian Andrews, Tyson Coon, Cruz Escareno and Mason Hughes; and for Queen: Ellianna Coulter, Elizabeth Foth, Kinlee Sanchez and Elyssa Wood.
The crown bearers were Rufus Cross and Aspen McCalla, both first graders at Marshall Elementary School, in Eureka.
Parade Grand Marshals Bill and Janell Castle, the EHS Class of 1977 along with the Class of 2027 were recognized.
The homecoming parade followed the assembly.
The sophomore class won the float contest, with juniors placing second and freshmen and seniors tying for third.
Students in grades 7-12 also created banners for Homecoming week. The senior class claimed top honors with the seventh grade class taking second place and freshmen claiming third place.
During halftime Friday evening, the new Queen and her court were escorted by their fathers, as well as the King candidates. The crown bearers, EHS cheerleaders, the EHS band and 2025 EHS Homecoming Queen Madelyn Miller and King TJ Mills assisted with festivities.
The Tornadoes won their game, 22-16, against Bluestem in overtime. See related article on page 7 of this week’s issue. A homecoming dance was held in the Tornado Activity Center, following the game.
