- submitted by Jan Stephens Women of the United Methodist Church met for their Morning Circle meeting of United Women in Faith on Wednesday, Sept. 9. After a brunch hosted by Faith Butler, Cindy Knotts led the group in devotions.
Patsy Garner led the program with articles from the Response UWF magazine. Three themes were noted. Inspire urged messages of love, justice, and service for communities. Influence showed how connections and bonds were important in times of structural changes. Impact urged “Dream it! Believe it! Do it!” and shared the story of Elizabeth Eckford. Eckford was a Black student who entered Little Rock high school in September 1957 as one of the Little Rock Five. Her story urged bystanders to be involved and supportive.
The group also discussed upcoming events of the church including Worship at the Lake on Sept. 25 and the monthly community breakfast held the second Saturday of each month. Cards were signed for friends who are facing difficulties. The next meeting of the Morning Circle will be Oct. 14 and the General UMW meeting will be Oct. 18.
