On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Top Hand Youth Rodeo Association (THYRA) was awarded a $7,500 grant from the Tim Underwood Memorial. This is the fifth year that the association has been cho-sen to receive this grant. The grant money has been used to purchase prizes, including custom saddles and belt buckles, for the All Around winners in the association. They have also purchased new equipment to help put on the youth rodeo association safely and efficiently.
Tim Underwood was employed with HF Sinclair of El Dorado, when he was in a tragic accident that took his life. Through an annual golf tournament, committee members have raised over $2 million over the years to give back to local non profits in his memory.
THYRA is celebrating its fifth year of youth rodeo at the Eureka Saddle Club Arena in Eureka. Their Finals weekend was scheduled for Sept. 5-6.
Over 100 youth from four different states have participated this year in roping, timed event and rough stock events.
