The Greenwood County 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes Team traveled to Kansas State University in Manhattan to compete in the 2026 Kansas State 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes Contests on August 22-23. The Event was the first State 4-H Event to be held in the new Bilbrey Family Event Center. The team had a great weekend of competition, along with over 300 competitors from across the state of Kansas. The weekend included four separate contests; Livestock Judging, Livestock Skillathon, Meat Judging, and Livestock Quiz Bowl. The team scores from all four contests were then averaged for total points for the weekend and overall teams and individuals are named Sweepstakes Contest winners. The Greenwood County Team Members are Hannah Perrier, Wyatt Hoag, Sydney Lindamood, Henry Perrier, Bradyn Greenwood, Haddie Mae Seaton, Jorja Beeman, Henry Lindamood, Clay Teter, and Kenyon Curry.
The Greenwood County Team was named the Reserve Champion Overall Sweepstakes Team and Hannah Perrier was the Champion Overall Sweepstakes Individual. She was awarded a custom belt buckle for her efforts. S. Lindamood also had a great showing and was 8th high Overall Individual in the Sweepstakes Event.
The Team began the weekend with the Quiz Bowl Exam and secured the 3rd best score on the test and were seeded 3rd in the tournament bracket for head to head live rounds. On Sunday afternoon; after a first round bye, the Team defeated the WildCat District Team and moved on to the Semi-Finals. The Team was defeated by the Southwind 2 Team in a very low and close scoring game. The Team of Hoag, S. Lindamood, Henry Perrier, and Greenwood were named the 3rd place Overall Team in Livestock Quiz Bowl. After taking the Livestock Quiz Bowl Exam on Saturday morning the Team moved to the Livestock Judging Contest. Nine Classes of Livestock were judged and four sets of oral reasons given. The Greenwood County Team finished 25th out of 42 teams in the contest. Saturday concluded with the Livestock Skillathon Contest. Greenwood County was 3rd Overall Team (Hannah Perrier, S. Lindamood, Henry Perrier, and Greenwood) and Hannah
Perrier was Overall
High individual.
Sunday morning began with the Senior and Intermediate Meat Judging Contests. The Intermediate Team won all categories in the Meat Judging contest which includes Placings, Retail Identification, and Questions resulting in being named the 2026 State Champions. The Team included H. Lindamood, Beeman, Curry and Teter.
Intermediate Individual Placings were as follows: Beeman: 5th Placings, 4th Retail ID, and 3rd Overall Individual; H. Lindamood: 3rd Retail ID, and 4th Overall Individual; Curry: 3rd in Questions and 7th Overall Individual.
The Senior Meat Judging Team of S. Lindamood, Henry Perrier, Hoag, and Seaton were 5th in Placings, 3rd in Retail ID, and 5th in Oral Reasons resulting in a 3rd Place Overall finish. S. Lindamood was 10th High Individual Overall. She and Hoag, both being in the top 18 Overall, were invited to try out for the Kansas State All Star National 4-H Meat Judging Team. If they choose to accept the invitation, and make the team, they will be able to compete in the 2026 American Royal National 4-H Meat Judging Contest to be held in Lincoln,
Neb.
Greenwood County was well represented by these 4-Hers. Their dedication and hard work paid off with a weekend of learning, goals attained, comradery, and fun.
