America’s story did not begin with political power or human ambition - it began with prayer.
When the first permanent English settlers anchored off Virginia’s shore, they carried something remarkable with them: a cross. Before they stepped on land, they paused to examine their hearts. Their chaplain called them to repentance, fasting and communion so they would come not merely as explorers and colonists, but as humble servants of God. Once ashore, they planted their cross, knelt in prayer and dedicated this new land not to an earthly king - but to the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.
That declaration and others - such as the Mayflower Compact - laid a spiritual foundation for the blessings that followed. The freedoms prosperity and influence America has experienced are not simply the result of human effort, natural resources or political systems. They flow from a deeper source: a covenantal acknowledgment that God is the true source of our blessing.
Yet every generation must decide whether it will remember that foundation. Today, as strife threatens our nation, let us humbly come together in prayer, asking the Lord to heal and bless our land. Gordon Robertson.
