The 15th annual Eureka Pro Rodeo was held over the weekend at Eureka Downs, with approximately 1,800 spectators attending the two-day event.
Both nights featured Mutton Bustin’ for youth ages 6 and under prior to the rodeo, followed by bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping and bull riding. The festivities concluded Saturday night with a dance featuring David Oakleaf and the Open Road Band. Bryson Turner sang the National Anthem Friday night, while Kate (McDonald) Lear performed it Saturday night. Elizabeth Steele played her violin in the concourse building both nights, which was filled with a variety of vendors. On Friday night, family members of Nancy Underwood recited the Pledge of Allegiance to kick off this year’s event. Underwood was a strong supporter of rodeo in general, but especially loved watching the Eureka Pro Rodeo grow. Through her son’s memorial, the Tim Underwood Memorial, the family has contributed greatly to the local event. Following Nancy’s passing in May of this year, the 15th annual rodeo was dedicated in her memory.
Eureka graduate and current Elmdale resident Brody Harrison claimed first-place honors in the saddle bronc event.
Madison cowboy Dawson McMaster was named the all-around cowboy, earning $856. He competed in tie-down roping and team roping. In team roping, D. McMaster and his partner, Dexton Hoelting of Olpe, tied for second place with a time of 5.2 seconds. D. Mc-Master did not place in the tie-down roping event.
Fellow Madison resident Trenton Burd competed in the saddle bronc event and placed sixth with a score of 81.5.
Madison’s Jessica Mc-Master competed in breakaway roping. Official results were unavailable at the time of publication.
