The Greenwood County Historical Society board met at the Museum on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Present were President Mike Pitko and board members Rise Russin, Jamie Lindamood, Stan Skaer, Dusty Booth, Gib Rhodes, John Bills, Greg Rawlings, Taylor Hunt, Jan Stephens, Dana Mills and museum office secretary Kim Ring.
Treasurer D. Mills gave financial reports that were approved. New accounting methods are saving money. It was suggested “for sale items” be offered as “by donation.”
There were 122 visitors during June and July from six states. Being open on Saturdays in July brought in more visitors and Saturday hours are being considered for the future.
It was reported the exhibits of a saddle and 4-H Camp photos at the County Fair were successful in creating interest in the Museum. A thank you note was read from TJ Mills for the recent scholarship he received.
With the opening of the Claycomb Schoolhouse, there was discussion about how to celebrate the history of rural schoolhouses represented in this exhibit. An Open House event will be planned in the future. Discussion also included how to recognize donors to the project.
It was decided that the board will meet monthly in the future and the next meeting will be Sept. 1.
