The Elk County Commission meets weekly on Mondays at 1 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved minutes of the July 27 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The Elk County Commission opened their regular meeting on July 27 with the approval of the July 13 meeting minutes. They also approved abatements and warrants in the amount of $124,346.10.
Gillian Beaumont with EMS presented the commission with her report. She noted that the EMS Department is almost out of funds and would need a transfer. Commissioners approved to move $150,000 from the Windfarm Fund to the EMS Fund.
Reports were heard from Public Works, Community Development, Rural Fire and the Sheriff’s Department.
During the Treasurer’s Report, commissioners approved to remove Jessica Kessler and add Annie Halderman to the bank signature cards. Treasurer Rachel Ware also informed the commission that she sent the bankruptcy for Dish Wireless LLC to County Counselor Paul Dean.
County Clerk Kerry Harrod presented a flyer to the commission in regards to vendors using the courthouse lawn Sept. 1112. Commissioners gave their approval.
Commissioners approved to dissolve the County Recycling Program/ Budget as of Jan. 1, 2027. It was noted that the county will still have the countywide cleanup and it will save 1 mill. Commissioners held discussion in regards to trying to wean Road and Bridge off of the $250,000 it receives from the Windfarm Funds every year. After discussion, commissioners approved to transfer $175,000 of the $250,000 that was budgeted from the Windfarm Funds to Road and Bridge in 2027. The $175,000 will be held in reserves to only be used if necessary.
Commissioners approved to hold the 2027 Rural Fire Budget Hearing at 1 p.m. and the 2027 County Revenue Neutral Rate and Budget Hearing at 1:05 p.m., both on Aug. 31.
Multiple executive sessions were held regarding legal matters and non-elected personnel. After returning to open meeting, the following items were approved: to hire Andrea Mull at $16 per hour; pay raise for Tina Blackburn from $15.42 to $16.42 per hour; pay raise for completing the police academy for Malachi Hodges from $17.48 to $18.48 per hour; pay raise for Kelly Young from $19.52 to $20 per hour and pay raise for completing the police academy for Travis Cassity from $18.50 to $19.50 per hour.
Commissioners also held discussion regarding flock cameras.
The next meeting of the Elk County Commission will be held on Aug. 24.
