What is the cost of doing nothing?
What happens when we do nothing? Often, we get more of the same. If we don’t look for work when unemployed, we tend to remain unemployed. If we neglect our health, it tends to deteriorate until disease arrives. We know this but we don’t change our habits and continue on the path toward undesirable outcomes. Just as people need to change to enable more desirable outcomes, the city needs to do the same. Eureka has a long history of declining population. If that trend does not stabilize and reverse, then undesirable outcomes are inevitable. The result of declining population is higher taxes to maintain existing infrastructure. Rising costs due to inflation must be born by fewer people. If we don’t do something, Eureka’s population will continue to decline and more of the same consequences will continue. We want things to stay the same, and yet change comes anyway. Now that we know the cost of doing nothing, what can we do? Let’s get behind changes that can move our city
