A total of 1,265 voters in Greenwood County went to the polls for the Aug. 4 Primary Election. Although Greenwood County voters voted in support of the constitutional amendment (686-551), the voters across the state were largely opposed to the amendment, with No receiving 61% of the votes, 382,395 to 240,799.
Other races were to select whose name would appear on the general ticket in November for both the Democratic and Republican parties. Several write-in votes were cast, due to no one filing for that specific position, with those results not being available until after the Aug. 24 canvas by the Greenwood County Commission.
The unofficial results were as follows: DEMOCRATIC PARTY: United State Senate: Noah Taylor won Greenwood County with 58 votes, however, Adam Hamilton received the most votes in the state and will appear on the general ticket.
United States Representative District 4: Katy Tyndell won Greenwood County with 106 votes. She also received 66% of the votes across the state and will appear on the general ticket.
Governor/Lt. Governor: Cindy Holscher/KC McKenney won Greenwood County with 83 votes and also received majority of the votes across the state and will appear on the general ticket.
Secretary of State: Jennifer Day received the most votes in Greenwood County (143) and across the state and will appear on the general ticket.
The following races were unopposed on the primary ticket and will appear on the general ticket in November: Attorney General: Chris Mann; State Treasurer: Juan C. Luengo; Commissioner of Insurance: Dinah Sykes; Kansas House of Representatives: Mark Remmert; Member, State Board of Education District 9: Heather Guernsey.
No Democratic candidates filed for County or Township offices REPUBLICAN PARTY: United State Senate: Incumbent Roger Marshall won Greenwood County (805-149) and the state as he received 80% of the votes over Pond Naramore.
United States Representative Districts 4: Incumbent Ron Estes also won the county (656-279) and the state, receiving 81% of the votes across the state.
Governor/Lieutenant Governor: Ty Masterson/ Jeffrey Klemp received the most votes in both Greenwood County and the state and will appear on the general ticket.
Member, State Board of Education District 9: Kristian Gerken received the most votes in Greenwood County; however, Destry Brown received 43% and majority of the votes in Kansas and will appear on the general ticket.
County Commissioner, District 2: Incumbent Preston Evenson won the primary 105-88, against JJ Smith.
Township Clerk: Fall River: Robin Stitt received the most votes (19) and will appear on the general ticket. Others appearing on the primary were: Jesse J. Cross 18 and Valerie L. Butler 4 .
The following township clerks were unopposed and will appear on the November ballot: Bachelor: Eric Bitler; Otter Creek: Lee Schouten; Quincy: Wes Sawyer; Salt Springs: Sherri D Schaffer; Twin Grove: Hal Coble. No Candidates Filed in the following Townships: Janesville, Lane, Madison, Pleasant Grove, Salem, South Salem, Shell Rock, Spring Creek.
