Commander Evan P. Moody, a Eureka native, retired from the U.S. Navy on July 1, 2026, after 20 years of service as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Moody spent the majority of his career at Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Florida, where he provided a full range of surgical care, including complex dental implants, jaw surgery, TMJ procedures, and advanced anesthesia. He also served aboard the aircraft carriers USS George Washington and USS Abraham Lincoln. Moody has been married to his wife, Cayela (Coulter), for 22 years, and together they have eight children.
To the joy of their families, they have returned to the Andover area, where he has joined the practice of Mid-Kansas Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. There was no formal retirement ceremony. The quiet conclusion of his military service marks the end of a long chapter for a hometown son who carried the values of Eureka with him throughout a career spent caring for those who serve.
