The Elk County Commission meets weekly on Mondays at 1 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved minutes of the June 29 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The Elk County Commission held a road viewing to vacate Road 4 and Cyclone Road at 11 a.m. prior to the regular meeting. After viewing, commissioners approved to vacate Cyclone Road at Road 4 going east 1/2 mile. Following the close of the Road Viewing Meeting, the regular meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. The minutes of the June 8 regular meeting were approved as presented.
Commissioners approved the Kimble Mapping contract in the amount of $6,000 to be paid by the Sheriff and Appraiser departments.
The council was informed that the EMS department will need to have a transfer made as the department is short on cash.
During the Emergency Management report, it was noted that airport inspections were held on June 13. During the inspection, the inspector noted some suggestions. Two of the items need to be addressed with the Rodeo Association (old post and tree removal) and a windsock was already in the works to be replaced. The Flood Plain Open House was held on June 16. Emergency Management Director Erica Cordell noted that she has preliminary maps if anyone is interested in viewing them.
Don Sanders with Public Works presented reports and an engineering agreement. Commissioners approved the agreement for Engineering Service between Elk County and Kirkham, Michael & Associates for the OS bridge F-6.7 which is located 4 miles north and 8.3 miles west of Howard on Pioneer Road. The bridge spans Elk Creek and will be constructed with minimal approach grading. Commissioners also approved the purchase of a 2027 Neville Equipment trailer from Larry’s Trailer Sales & Service in the amount of $29,875. It was also noted that Safe Streets for All will be in Elk County in July for guard rail project.
Diane Cucar with Community Development presented bids for grading and paving the driveway at 1285 Evergreen. Commissioners approved the bid from Haywire Earthworks in the amount of $194,495.68 and to start on Phase 1. The funds will come from State Grants. Discussion was also held regarding constructing a fire barn in Grenola.
Ed Morgan informed the council that Elk County’s Insurance Fire Rating is currently at the highest rating of level 10. Discussion was held regarding how the county could lower the rating. A meeting will be set to hold further discussion. The council was also informed that the tower clock speaker is having issues. The council decided to proceed with getting an appraisal for repairs.
Multiple executive sessions were held regarding various topics. After returning to open meeting, commissioners approved to hire Anastasia (Annie) Halderman at $16 per hour.
2027 Budget Requests were presented to commissioners. Commissioners approved the nomination of Jake Liebau as KWORCC Trustee and warrants in the amount of $206,038.98.
Commissioners approved to execute the Contract of Sale and Purchase and the Quit Claim Deed for the property located at the southwest quarter of block 22 City of Moline in the amount of $5,000 plus a $21 filing fee.
The next meeting of the Elk County Commission will be held on Aug. 3 at 1 p.m.
