P.E.O.“Walk Today For Women Tomorrow” To Be Held On Aug. 1

– submitted by Connie Mitchell Get ready to walk! P.E.O. Chapter FR, Eureka, recently announced P.E.O.’s inaugural “Walk Today for Women Tomorrow,” to be held at 8 a.m. on Aug. 1 at the Lions Park. This exciting new event supports the mission of P.E.O. to motivate, educate, and celebrate women. Participants will be able to choose the distance they wish to walk, and those who are unable to walk are encouraged to come and cheer the participants on.

Participation in the event is free and open to the public although participants may make donations at the event to benefit the P.E.O. philanthropies which are focused on providing scholarships, grants, awards, loans and the stewardship of Cottey College for women to pursue education.

Chapter FR has been a part of the Eureka community since it was organized in 1950 and presents scholarships annually to young women graduating from Eureka Junior/Senior High School. For more information regarding the event or Chapter FR, contact Connie Mitchell at eurekapeochapterfr@ gmail.com. P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) has been motivating, educating, and celebrating women for more than 156 years. Since its inception in 1869, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 129,000 women pursue educational goals by providing approximately $462 million (as of July 2025) in grants, scholarships, awards, and loans. The Sisterhood is also the primary support for Cottey College in Nevada, Mo. Through membership, the P.E.O. Sisterhood has brought together more than half a million women in the United States and Canada who are passionate about helping women advance through education while supporting and motivating them. In addition to the educational philanthropies, the P.E.O. Sisterhood provides a framework of support and community for all members. What started with a bond of friendship among seven women in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is now one of the oldest women’s organizations in North America with over 4,500 chapters.
