On Wednesday, July 22, APAC-Kansas Inc. will chip seal Main Street from River Street to 7th Street in Eureka. They will also chip seal the streets around the Greenwood County Courthouse. Chip seal is completed by evenly distributing a thin layer of asphalt emulsion onto the pavement surface and then embedding finely graded aggregate into it. Main Street and the streets around the courthouse will remain open to through traffic during the chip seal process. However, vehicles will not be allowed to park on Main Street and the streets around the courthouse during the day on Wednesday, July 22. On Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24, APAC will begin sweeping up any excess aggregate in the project area.
On Monday, July 27, APAC will fog seal Main Street from River Street to 7th Street. They will also fog seal the streets around the Greenwood County Courthouse. Fog seal is completed by spraying a thin layer of specially formulated asphalt emulsion onto the pavement surface to provide an additional layer of sealant, lock all of the aggregate into place, and provide a deep black color to enhance the delineation of the pavement striping. Main Street and the streets around the courthouse will remain open to through traffic during the fog seal process. However, vehicles will not be allowed to park in the street on Main Street and the streets around the courthouse during the day on Monday, July 27.
After the fog seal is allowed to cure for three to four weeks, new pavement striping will be applied on Main Street from River Street to 7th Street and on the streets around the courthouse.
