1. What interests you about serving in this role?
I am seeking re-election because I believe I can continue making a difference for Greenwood County. In my official capacity as county commissioner, I have demonstrated my ability to lead and my commitment to engage in every aspect of my position.
My 32 years of civil service (City of Eureka) provided me with extensive technical and leadership experience. Because I enjoyed public service and wanted to continue in some capacity, I was honored to first be elected as a commissioner in 2022. Being elected to a second term would provide opportunities to build on progress that is being made.
2. How do you prioritize competing demands with limited resources?
Serving in elected governmental roles comes with great responsibility. Priorities – sometimes competing and sometimes prioritized differently by stakeholders - must be identified, analyzed and discussed in transparent, civil forums. Challenges can require that difficult, informed decisions must sometimes be made and explained. My actions as commissioner have shown my accountability in this respect.
Our county budget is an example: We all need to understand our sources of revenue and expenditures of funds. We must strategically plan for both the short and long term. As a commissioner, I have also monitored state/federal issues that impact our county.
3. If elected, what would your top three priorities be during your first year?
Quality of Life – As we think about our county and our vision for it, we must focus on education, healthcare, employment, entertainment, roads/bridges, safety and other important considerations.
Infrastructure –We must maintain and at times improve our system of roads and bridges. Our county must be a good partner with townships, cities, other counties, and the state/federal government.
Economic Development – Farming, ranching and the oil industry are critical to Greenwood County, but we must also continue seeking/evaluating opportunities to add to our economic base. A good fit can help with employment, housing, property taxes, sales taxes, etc.
4. Please list personal information or other information you feel is important.
As a lifelong resident of Greenwood County, I have always believed we live in a special place. My family and I are deeply rooted in the community and proud to call it “home.” I take pride in being a person of integrity, honesty, dedication, trustworthiness, accountability and results.
Our strength comes from the bond of our relationships. Please know I’ve enjoyed working diligently to serve you these past four years, and would greatly appreciate your confidence in me to serve a second term.
