1. What interests you about serving in this role?
I have been an educator for 42 years and I want to continue to serve the students, families, and employees in the school systems in southeast Kansas. I believe that we are at a pivotal point in education in Kansas.There will be decisions made about school funding next year.We have a new commissioner of education to set priorities and re-establish the vision for schools in Kansas. 2. How do you prioritize competing demands with limited resources?
I have had a lot of experience in this area in my 20 years of being a superintendent. Priorities are established through input from stakeholders. In this case, those stakeholders are KSDE staff, teachers and administrators across Kansas, parents, and school board members.After receiving that input, we need to analyze those things that are most important and begin determining what makes sense with the funding resources that are available.These types of decisions cannot be made in a vacuum, and we need to establish priorities that are best for all kids in Kansas.Additionally, it is essential to look........
3. If elected, what would your top three priorities be during your first year?
First, I would make sure that I am an advocate for our students. I want to support our students by helping to remove barriers and open new avenues for learning for our students.This might include new pathways for Career and Technical Education, or new experiences through internships. My advocacy may also include additional supports for our students with special education needs or for our earliest learners. I will advocate for the success of all students.

4. Please list personal information or other information you feel is important.
My wife and I have three sons and seven grandchildren, six of which will be or are attending Kansas schools in District 9. I have lived most of my life in southeast KS and believe I have a deep understanding of the strengths of our schools as well as the challenges they face daily. I have been in the trenches with our teachers and principals as we worked together for the best for our kids. I believe my background and experience make me the best candidate to represent District 9 on the State Board of Education.
