The Madison/Virgil USD 386 Board of Education met on July 13 at 5:30 p.m. for their regular meeting. The updated agenda and June regular and special meeting minutes were approved.
Staff members were recognized for their efforts with summer projects. An overview of Special Education was given.
The board approved Citizens State Bank as the Official Financial Depositor for the 2026-27 school year, the Business by Consent and Accounts Payable in the amount of $195,276.

The following resolutions were approved by the board: Resolution 27-1, Meeting Date, Time and Place; Resolution 27-2, Declaring the School Calendar in Terms of Hours; Resolution 27-3, Seeking Waiver for Requirements of Law Applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for USD 386 Financial Reports and Audits; Resolution 27-4, Resolution of Early Payment of Bills; Resolution 27-5, Establish Petty Cash Funds; Resolution 27-6, Authorizing Destruction of Records; Resolution 27-7, Establish Activity Funds; Resolution 27-8, Establish Home Rule and the Acceptable Use Policy- KASB.
The board approved The Madison News as the school district’s official newspaper; mileage reimbursement rate at 72.5 cents per mile; meal reimbursement at $12 for breakfast, $17 for lunch and $22 for dinner and prudence to be used for lodging with approval from the building administrator.
The board also approved the recommended KASB policy updates as presented and the purchase of 40 Neo Macs for the 2026-27 school year.
Information items discussed included the scoreboard, Bond survey, Budget information (Revenue Neutral Rate), Handbooks-Staff/ Student 1st reading, Facility Usage Agreement 1st reading, Health insurance, welding bids, KASB delegate, Hamilton Sports Agreement, and Jr/Sr High plumbing.
Administrative reports, updates to the website, upcoming reports and budget information were shared.
The board held an executive session for 10 minutes to discuss personnel matters for non-elected personnel. After returning to open meeting, the board approved to hire Trace Dannels as the Assistant JH football and Assistant JH Boys Basketball coach, Payje Dymond as Assistant HS Volleyball coach and approved the resignation of Flora Stutesman.
The board held another 10-minute executive session to discuss negotiation regarding teacher contracts. No action was taken after returning to open meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m. The next meeting of the Madison/ Virgil USD 386 Board of Education will be held on Aug. 10.
