Greenwood County Commission Held Routine Weekly Meeting

The Greenwood County Commission held a short business meeting on Monday, July 6.

Following up on last week’s discussion pertaining to the use of the Eureka Downs facility, the commission heard from Jamie Lindamood of Greenwood County Community Center (GC3). It was noted that before this week’s meeting, several of the questions had been answered. It was noted that Commissioner Mac Obourn had requested that the City of Eureka submit an invoice for use of the facility, as the county no longer splits expenses with the city for the community building. The commission approved paying $12,000 towards expenses, the same amount they did last year.

The commission heard from Road and Bridge Administrative Assistant Kassie Lazar. She presented a Geology Estimate proposal from Cook, Flatt, & Strobel Engineers, totaling $14,800, for geotechnical services for the pending bridge project at 100th Street and U Road.

The commission also approved for Emergency Manager Levi Vinson to purchase a new iMac with additional storage and memory for $1,999.

Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels presented a new part-time employee verification for an intern, who will begin working this month and continue to work before and after school once the school year starts. Sheriff Samuels noted that Alicía Sanchez will receive $14/ hour.

The commission held a total of three executive sessions, with no decisions being made after any of the sessions. The first session was with Lewis for personnel – evaluation. The second was with Counselor Paul Dean for legal matters. The third session was held for personnel matters, with Counselor Dean, however, a subject was not provided.

Three components are required when entering an executive session: justification, subject and the time the open meeting will resume. For more information on requirements under the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) visit the Attorney General of Kansas’ website at ag.ks.gov.

The commission approved special payables, totaling $8,862.01; regular payables, totaling $283,969.08; and regular payroll, totaling $156,070.38.

Following the meeting, the commissioners held a budget work session with Jarred, Gilmore & Phillips, PA.
