The family of Howard and Connie Schlotterbeck have requested a card shower in honor of their 65th Wedding anniversary on Thursday, July 2.
The couple was united in marriage on July 2, 1961, at the Virgil United Methodist Church by Pastor Chitman.
Both graduated high school from Virgil, Connie in 1960 and Howard in 1959. Connie attended Wichita Business school prior to marriage. Once finished, she started working for Western Electric in March of 1961 in Topeka. Howard attended Emporia State for a few years before leaving to work in Topeka. He eventually started working for Russ’s IGA where he learned how to be a grocer.
They lived in Topeka until February 1973 before moving to Eureka to open Howard’s IGA at the corner of River and Main Streets, that same month. They changed the name to Howard’s A F Super in 1985 as they changed warehouses. The couple retired in December 2009.
The couple has been members of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church for 53 years. Howard enjoys coffee every morning at the Senior Center. Following retirement, Connie delivered meals for Friendship Meals for almost 16 years before having to give it up earlier this year.
The couple has four children, Montie Schlotterbeck - Lubbock, Texas; Melissa Ledford of Burns, Marsha Lee of Howard and Mark Schlotterbeck of Conway Springs. The couple has six grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Cards for the couple can be sent to Howard and Connie Schlotterbeck at 1033 Country Club Dr., Eureka, KS 67045.
