The Greenwood County Historical Society is getting ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Volunteer Carma Wilson has created a spectacular display using the flags in the museum’s collection to showcase the history of the American flag. Wilson has set up a model of the White House and will include a short narration of the burning of that building by the British in 1814 during the War of 1812.
A red, white and blue American flag quilt made by the members of the Fancy Mustangs 4-H club in 2021 and donated to the museum is also on display.
Community members are encouraged to stop by and share in the celebration with us. Prizes will be available to children who visit.
The museum will not be open on July 4, but will welcome visitors Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
