Flinthills Middle School seventh grader Mayley Decker will represent the area next week at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) in Guthrie, Okla. June 2127.
Decker qualified for the event in barrel racing, at the Kansas Junior High School Rodeo Association (KJHSRA) State Finals, held at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, May 21-23.
Decker went into state finals with just a half point lead after the regular season rodeos. She secured her state championship win with a solid round 1, round 2 and short go performance. This is the second time Decker has qualified for Nationals on her horse “Bob” & first time the duo has won state. Decker will compete in barrels on Wednesday, June 24, during both the morning 9 a.m. and evening 7 p.m. performance, with the hopes of making it to the top 20 and qualify for the short go round on Saturday, June 27.
