What a busy whirlwind of a week this past week. We got rain several days, which was much needed. I don’t know if it rained every day as we left town Thursday morning and came back Saturday. We went to Wade’s hometown, Protection. I hadn’t been able to make it out there for several years, so we went last week. We had planned on going the week before Memorial Day, but he wound up in the hospital, so we went last week. It gave him a chance to reminisce and we got to visit with a friend of his from school and spent time with a cousin.
What holiday, on June 14, was officially established in 1916?
Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities; Hello, also, to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.
We offer out sympathy to the family and friends of Charles “Sonny” McCoy, Karen Henderson, and Ella Odell. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.
A couple new businesses are coming to town. Work has been being done to the old car wash. Equipment has been updated and the building has been painted. Soon we will have a place to wash our cars and I hear a laundromat is being put in the back of the Grumpy Bear Trading post. Both of those will be nice additions to our town.
Our internet was down the other day. I tried calling it in. The recording said there were no outages in my area. I had tried all the usual stuff, like rebooting the modem, I unplugged the power, unplugged the phone line, pushed the reset button two different times and made the dreaded call. I was on hold for 58 minutes and 49 seconds and decided that was enough. I had things I needed to do. So I hung up and went about my business. About five minutes later I noticed the green light was on on the modem. It was back on. It’s ridiculous having to wait so long. Some places, if there is an unusual amount of calls, you can leave your number for a callback, but not Brightspeed.
Is there anyway to truly stop unwanted phone calls? My phone is registered with the do not call registry, but I guess that doesn’t matter. I deleted 1,000 blocked numbers earlier this year and now I have 376 blocked numbers! Does it ever end?
Toronto Day’s is closing in on us. Four weeks to go.
Answer: Flag Day. The flag was adopted in 1777 and Bernard J. Cigrand, a Wisconsin schoolteacher, is often called “The Father of Flag Day,” proposed the day in 1885. President Woodrow Wilson officially established Flag Day in 1916 and Congress designated it a national observance. Pennsylvania recognizes June 14 as a legal holiday. It is an “observance” for the rest of us.
Rainy weather is predicted for this week. Grass is going to get pretty tall before it’s dry enough to mow again. I don’t like mowing when the grass is wet, do you? I see people mowing when it’s wet or even when it is sprinkling.
