The West Elk Junior High track team wrapped up an impressive season with strong performances across all grade levels and three new school records added to the program’s history books.
Leading the way for the Patriots was Jaycee Griesel, who broke two girls records this season. Griesel set a new school record in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:08.12, surpassing the previous mark of 6:09.65 set by Cortney Miller in 2006.
Griesel also established a new record in the 3200-meter run, finishing in 13:26.93. The previous record of 15:20 was held by Savannah Stroot and had stood since 2019.
On the boys side, Journey Bahr set a new school record in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:15.74. Bahr broke the previous record of 12:30 set by Gunner Daugherty in 2019.
The Patriots capped off the season with several strong team performances at the SCBL Meet, where many athletes recorded personal- best efforts. The 7th grade girls finished seventh overall, while the 8th grade girls earned a third-place finish. The 7th grade boys placed fourth, and the 8th grade boys finished fifth.
