Mark your calendars for Eureka Days, June 6. The Greenwood County Historical Society (GWCH) Museum will open at 9 a.m. that morning. The museum will have a new exhibit on display celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Greenwood County Hospital. At 1:30 p.m., author Robert Phillips will be presenting a program at the museum entitled “Big Boys Don’t Cry,” the title of his first book about growing up in Virgil.
Phillips was born in Eureka; spent much of his childhood on a farm near Virgil; and graduated from the eighth grade at Severy Grade School in May 1959.
After retiring from a successful career in business, writing has become his passion. It provides him with a way to keep his mind active and allows his creative skills to run rampant. He currently lives in Lawrence, with his wife, Beverly and a cat named Simon.
The program is open to the public and is free of charge.
