To Represent Eureka At 2A State Golf Tournament In Winfield

Tornado junior Mason Hughes will be representing Eureka at the 2A State Golf Tournament this week, in Winfield. This will be his third state golf appearance.

The state meet will be held this Tuesday- Wednesday, May 2627 at Quail Ridge Golf Course, in Winfield.

After multiple lightning delays, golfers were able to complete the 18-hole course. Hughes shot an 87 to place in a tie for 7th and secure the third individual finish (outside of the top three teams) and secure his spot at the state tournament.

Fellow junior Easton Mead missed the state tournament by two strokes, finishing the regional round in a tie for 18th, with a score of 98.

Also representing the Tornadoes at the St. Mary’s Colgan Regional at Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg on Monday, May 18 were: freshman Wacey Ross, 108; junior Tyson Coon, 120; freshman Maddox Hughes, 131 and freshman Caden Nusz, 139.

As a team, the Tornadoes finished in fourth place with a team score of 413.

The top three teams and the next five individuals (not associated with those teams) advance to the state meet. Individual scores advancing to the state meet ranged between 73 and 96.

Hughes will compete at Winfield for the 2A State Golf Tournament on Tuesday, May 26. He is slated to tee off at 8:40 a.m. with group 10, and starting on Hole 10. The top six teams and the next 18 individuals (not on a qualifying team) plus ties on day one will advance to compete on Wednesday, May 27.
