The Elk County Commission meets weekly on Mondays at 1 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved minutes of the April 27 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The regular meeting of the Elk County Commission was held on April 27 at 1 p.m. Minutes of the April 13 meeting were approved as presented.
Commissioners approved the purchase of a new computer for the Appraiser’s office from Advantage Computers in the amount of $3,189.
Erica Cordell with Emergency Management informed the commission of the Solid Waste Plan 5-year review public hearing that will be held at the next commission meeting on May 11.
Don Sanders with Public Works presented his reports. Commissioners approved to purchase a 2026 H&H 82x20 gravity tilt equipment trailer from Trailers & Hitches in the amount of $9,949.90.
During the Community Development report, Diane Cucar presented a report from Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks regarding the field key for subjective evaluation of rangeland wildlife habitat. Commissioners also approved the bid from Haywire Earthworks LLC for grading the driveway and for site paving 200 feet of road at 1285 Evergreen in the amount of $75,658.78 pending State approval.
Commissioners approved a proclamation stating that Aug. 7 of each year shall be recognized at Purple Heart Day in Elk County.
The commission approved to amend Policy 20.32 under the Authorization and Procedure to raise the amount from $1,000 to $2,500 and under the Emergency Purchases from up to $5,000 to up to $10,000 with all wording to stay the same.
Gillian Beaumont stated that the Medicare and Medicaid accounts need to be updated for AIM to take over as administrator for billing purposes.
Commissioners also heard the Rural Fire report.
Two executive sessions totaling 20 minutes were held for legal matters to include County Counselor Paul Dean and Sanders. After returning to open meeting, no decisions were made.

Warrants in the amount of $123,160.68 and abatements were approved.
Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the next meeting of the Elk County Commission will be held on Tuesday, May 26 at 1 p.m.
