Approximately $390,000 In Scholarships Presented At EHS Senior Day

Community members came together last Friday, May 15 and awarded $390,000 in local scholarships, during the annual Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS) Senior Day assembly.

Area businesses, organizations and individuals awarded community scholarships, ranging from $50 to $30,000, to assist in furthering the education of graduating class members.

Ushering in the senior class were EJSHS juniors Tristan Milner and Kimber Olsen.

STUCO president Hannah Perrier led the flag salute. Senior class President TJ Mills gave the opening address.

The High School Choir, accompanied by Emily Erasmus, sang “We Won’t Stop Dreaming” arranged by Pinkzebra followed by the High School band playing “Born To Run” arranged by Paul Murtha.

Senior Class President Mills handed down the colors to the junior class President Olsen.

Principal Angie Lowe recognized the class Valedictorians William Fitzwater, Lydia Mason Madelyn Miller, TJ Mills, Britta Mongeau, Ava Noble, Harlie Owings, Hannah Perrier and Alaina Westerman and Salutatorian Savannah Bruno-Pelky (see related story elsewhere in this issue).

The presentation of scholarships were as follows: Betty Makemson Memorial, presented by Tyson Rucker, in the amount of $300, awarded to Harlie Owings.

Home Bank & Trust, presented by Tyson Rucker, in the amount of $200, awarded to Rose Buck, Peyton Hare, Levi Jones, Owen Morris, Hannah Perrier, Carson Ramsey, Addison Westerman, Alaina Westerman and Brenna Rucker.

W.B. Smethers Trust, presented by Tyson Rucker, in the amount of $1,000, awarded to TJ Mills, Harlie Owings, Hannah Perrier, Miley Baumgartel and Addison Westerman.

Community National Bank and Trust - Butler Community College Scholarship, presented by Lisa McDonald, in the amount of $500, awarded to Harlie Owings, TJ Mills and Madelyn Miller.

Greenwood County Shriners 3-Wheelers of Midian Shrine, presented by C.F. Cox, in the amount of $250, awarded to Harlie Owings, Britta Mongeau, TJ Mills and Alaina Westerman.

Masons - Fidelity Lodge, presented by C.F. Cox in the amount of $500, awarded to Ava Noble and Alaina Westerman.

Richard L. Howard Scholarship, presented by Loria Howard, in the amount of $300, awarded to Miley Baumgartel, Lydia Mason and Addison Westerman.

Greenwood County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship, presented by Michael Lehmann, in the amount of $500, awarded to Hannah Perrier and TJ Mills.

Shelter Insurance Scholarship, presented by Stephen and Elle Coulter, in the amount of $1,500, awarded to Lydia Mason.

Don Huntington, presented by Donelda Perkins, in the amount of $800, awarded to TJ Mills and Hannah Perrier.

EHS Alumni Scholarship, presented by Donelda Perkins, in the amount of $400, awarded to Lydia Mason, Madelyn Miller, Miley Baumgartel, Tristan Boyer, Taryn Burk, Britta Mongeau, Ava Noble, Addison Westmeran and Alaina Westerman.

Babson Foundation Scholarship, presented by Steve Spore and Troy Richardson, in the amount of $3,750 per semester for four-year colleges renewable for 8 semesters or $2,500 per semester for junior colleges/vo-tech, changing to $3,750 a semester if the junior college graduates advance to a four-year college or university. The scholarships are renewable for 8 semesters of study, for a total of $30,000, awarded to William Fitzwater, Lydia Mason, Madelyn Miller, TJ Mills, Britta Mongeau, Ava Noble, Hannah Perrier, Harlie Owings and Alaina Westerman.

Tanner McMullen Memorial Scholarship, presented by Terry & Jacquetta Mc-Mullen, in the amount of $300, awarded to Levi Jones, Harlie Owings, Will Fitzwater, Britta Mongeau, Alaina Westerman, TJ Mills, Lydia Mason, Miley Baumgartel, Madelyn Miller, Hannah Perrier, Ava Noble, Addison Westerman and Peyton Hare.

Allen Hall Career & Tech Scholarship, presented by Melisa Burk, Brandon Hall and Kathryn Johnson, in the amount of $500, awarded to Cole Ptacek.

Barbara Robison Nicholas Scholarship through Greenwood County Historical Society, presented by Dana Mills, in the amount of $300, awarded to TJ Mills.

Greenwood County Extension - Judy Wiggins, presented by Alisha Fisher, in the amount of $500, awarded to Miley Baumgartel.

Eureka City Fire Department, presented by Luke Westerman and Brandon Escareno, in the amount of $200, awarded to Alaina Westerman, Addison Westerman and Owen Morris.

Veterans of Foreign Wars, John C. Reed VFW Post 2712, presented by Don Scott and Glen Gibson, in the amount of $200, awarded to TJ Mills.

Yearbook Scholarship, in the amount of $100, awarded to Taryn Burk; in the amount of $50, awarded to Cole Ptacek.

Forensics Scholarship, in the amount of $150, awarded to Savannah Bruno-Pelky; in the amount of $100, awarded to Abigail Baker; in the amount of $50, awarded to Haden Allen and Tiffany Larsen.

Peffer Family Scholarship, in the amount of $8,000 (over four years), awarded to Lydia Mason and Ava Noble.

Christian and Congregational Church, in the amount of $300, awarded to Rose Buck and Jonah Werner.

Neola Miller Scholarship, in the amount of $500, awarded to Madelyn Miller, Britta Mongeau and William Fitzwater.

Pay It Forward Scholarship, in the amount of $500, awarded to William Fitzwater.

Dawn Pitko Dawson Scholarship, in the amount of $500, awarded to Peyton Hare.

Larry Birkholz Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $500, awarded to TJ Mills and Tristan Boyer.

The Ellis Foundation Rooted in Rural Skilled Trades & Rooted in Rural Educational Program Scholarships, in the amount of $8,000 (over two years), awarded to Timothy Aguilar; in the amount of $8,000 (over fours years), Alaina Westerman.

Dale Dennis Excellence in Education Award, in the amount of $500, awarded to Britta Mongeau.

Frank & Jo Ann Williams & Donna Jo Nuessen Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $250, awarded to Nate Clark.

Ghyneth Burcham Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $300, awarded to Madelyn Miller and Savannah Bruno-Pelky.

Jean Grundy Scholarship, in the amount of $300, awarded to Miley Baumgartel.

Governors Scholar Award, in the amount of $500, awarded to Alaina Westerman.

The Kansas Board of Regents recognition of students having completed the regents recommended curriculum, (4 units of English, 4 units of Mathematics, 3 units of Science, 3 units of Social Science and 2 units of Foreign Language): Miley Baumgartel, Savannah Bruno-Pelky, William Fitzwater, Peyton Hare, Lydia Mason, Madelyn Miller, TJ Mills, Britta Mongeau, Ava Noble, Harlie Owings, Hannah Perrier and Alaina Westerman.

Designated Kansas State Scholars: William Fitzwater, Lydia Mason, TJ Mills, Britta Mongeau, Ava Noble, Savannah Bruno-Pelky, Hannah Perrier and Alaina Westerman.

Tri-Valley League-Recognition of outstanding ACT scores: - Alaina Westerman and TJ Mills Gold; Ava Noble and Hannah Perrier - Silver; and Lydia Mason and Savannah Bruno Pelky- Bronze.

Future Plans

EJSHS Guidance counselor Anna Noble shared the following plans for each member of the graduating class, as well as college-specific and private scholarships, as provided to her prior to last Friday’s Senior Day event.

They were as follows: 

Tim Aguilar

Tim Aguilar will be attending Butler Community College to pursue a certificate in welding.

Haden Allen

Haden Allen will be going to work with Royal T Construction. 

Abigail Baker

Abigail Baker will be entering the work force.

James Bauer

James Bauer will be attending Grand Canyon University to pursue a Psychology degree.

Miley Baumgartel

Miley Baumgartel will be attending Kansas State University to pursue a Bachelors degree in Agricultural Education, with a minor in Animal Science. She also received various awards from Kansas State University, totaling, $9,500.

Tristan Boyer

Tristan Boyer will be joining the electrical union in Wichita to apprenticeship and ultimately get his Journeyman Electrician license.

Savannah Bruno-Pelky Savannah Bruno-Pelky will be attending Wichita State University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science. She also received an academic merit scholarship, $5,000; and an Excellence in Extracurricular activities scholarship, $5,000.

Rose Buck

Rose Buck will be attending Friends University to pursue a Bachelors degree in Human Health and Performance. She also received an Athletic/Academic scholarship, $26,000; Christian spiritual formation scholarship, $500; and an Alumni scholarship, $500.

Taryn Burk

Taryn Burk will be attending Eric Fisher Academy to pursue a license in Cosmetology. 

Nathaniel Clark

Nathaniel Clark will be attending Allen Community College to pursue an Associates degree in Criminal Justice. He also received a Manager Scholarship for Tuition and Books.

Davian Damron

Davian Damron will be attending Butler Community College to pursue an Associates degree in Diesel Technology.

 Liara Dunn

Liara Dunn will be entering the workforce.

William Fitzwater

William Fitzwater will be attending Emporia State University to pursue a Bachelors degree in Health and Human Performance. He also received a Presidential Scholarship, $3,000.

Peyton Hare

Peyton Hare will be attending Allen Community College to pursue an associates degree in Pre-Physical Therapy and will be running track. He received a full books and tuition scholarship.

 Kaleb Hollis

Kaleb Hollis will be attending International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to pursue a Apprenticeship.

William Levi Jones

Levi Jones will be attending Butler Community College to obtain a Welding B Certificate.

Tiffany Larsen

Tiffany Larsen will be moving to Georgia and joining the workforce.

Gauge Lopez

Gauge Lopez will be moving to Wichita and entering the work force.

Lydia Mason

Lydia Mason will be attending the University of Kansas to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also received a Chancellor Scholarship from the University of Kansas, $20,000 ($5,000 per year).

Madelyn Miller

Madelyn Miller will be attending Neosho Community College where she will continue her softball career and will pursue a degree in education. She also received a books and tuition/fees scholarship.

TJ Mills

TJ Mills will be attending Butler Community College to pursue a degree in Agribusiness while also competing in track & field. He also received a Livestock Marketing Association Scholarship, $2,500; Greenwood County Cattlemen’s Scholarship, $500; a Merit Scholarship from Butler, $750; and books and tuition for track & field.

Britta Mongeau

Britta Mongeau will be attending Emporia State University on a Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track scholarship to pursue a Bachelors degree in Health & Human Performance. She also received a Presidential Scholarship from Emporia State.

Owen Morris

Owen Morris will be entering the workforce with Cobalt Boats.

Ava Noble

Ava Noble will be attending the University of Kansas to dual major in Supply Chain Management and Digital Marketing Communications. She also received a $5,000 annually ($20,000 total) University of Kansas Chancellor’s Merit Scholarship and the University School of Journalism Scholarship, $2,000.

Hunter Olsen

Hunter Olsen will be joining the Army as a 12B.

Brooklyn Ogden

Brooklyn Ogden will be attending Wichita State University to pursue an Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene. She also received $17,395 in grants and scholarships at Wichita State.

Harlie Owings

Harlie Owings will be attending Butler Community College to pursue her Registered Nurse degree.

Hannah Perrier

Hannah Perrier will be attending Kansas State University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. She also received an academic scholarship from Kansas State University, $5,500; and a Kansas Cattlewomen Scholarship, $1,000.

Cole Ptacek

Cole Ptacek will be entering the workforce with Kruse doing HVAC.

Carson Ramsey

Carson Ramsey will be attending Emporia State University to pursue a Bachelors degree in Business Management and then go to the Airforce as an officer.

Noah Rippy

Noah Rippy will be entering the workforce with Fisher Pest.

Brenna Rucker

Brenna Rucker will be attending Lindenwood University on a full academic and athletic scholarship, with a focus on Health & Wellness. After graduating college, she plans to enter the athletic and coaching field. She also received a Lindenwood University Academic Merit Scholarship, $8,500.

Alexander Vineyard

Alexander Vineyard plans to enter into an internship with KDOT, and go to Flint Hills Technical College to finish out an associates degree in automotive technology.

Jonah Werner

Jonah Werner is taking a gap year before going to Cowley College for automotive technologies.

Addison Westerman

Addison Westerman will be attending Eastern Oklahoma State College to pursue a degree in life science, and pre-vet. She also received a meat judging scholarship from Eastern Oklahoma State College.

Alaina Westerman

Alaina Westerman will be attending Kansas State University to pursue a Bachelors degree in Nuclear Engineering. She also received a Royal Purple Scholarship, $16,000; Engineering Commitment Scholarship, $2,000. She also plans to be a member of the K-State Marching Band.
