Eureka JV Baseball Split With Red Devils

The Eureka Tornado junior varsity baseball team split victories on Monday, May 4, against the Erie Red Devils, to conclude their season.

Eureka claimed a 10-9 comeback victory in game one and lost game two, 9-12.

In game one, Eureka rallied to edge Erie 10-9.

The Tornadoes claimed an early lead, 1-0, after the first and the teams were tied at 3 starting the third.

Eureka trailed 5-6 going into the fourth, and 8-9 going into the fifth and final inning.

The Tornadoes were able to score two in the final inning on errors by the Red Devils and secured the victory, 10-9.

Eureka sophomore Dash Gulick recorded a double. Scoring for the Tornadoes were D. Gulick, Camden Wunderlich and Brayden Buck all with 2 and Ashton Lawrence, Fisher Hobbs, Cash Escareno and Chason Gulick all with 1.

Timothy Aguilar earned the victory in relief, allowing three runs over 1 1/3 innings while striking out two. William Davis started on the mound and recorded five strikeouts.

Desipite and early lead in game two, the Tornadoes fell to Erie 9-12.

The Tornadoes jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Davis drew a bases-loaded walk and another run scored on a passed ball. Eureka extended the lead to 6-3 in the second inning after Buck delivered an RBI single and another run scored on an error.

Erie answered quickly, tying the game in the third inning before taking the lead for good in the fourth. Erie scored three runs in the final three innings. Eureka scored three runs in each the first, second and fourth innings, falling 9-12.

Davis and Buck each recorded singles with the following crossing homeplate for the Tornadoes: Davis, Buck, Cooper Bowlin, Samuel Camp, Wunderlich, Hobbs, Olsen, C. Gulick and Matthew Gore.

D. Gulick started on the mound for Eureka, allowing six runs over 2 2/3 innings. Escareno took the loss in relief.
