City Council Approved Two Proclamations

City Council Approved Two Proclamations

The Eureka City Council approved two proclamations during its regular meeting Monday, April 27.

The first proclamation honored Mike Mehegan, a longtime City of Eureka employee who recently passed away unexpectedly. The proclamation declared the day as “Be Like Mike Day,” recognizing his service and impact on the community.

The second proclamation recognized the Lady Tornado basketball team, which placed third at the Class 2A State Tournament this year. The finish marked the program’s first state medal and best state performance in school history.

In other business, the council heard a funding request from the Top Hand Youth Rodeo Association but tabled a decision due to a lack of available funds. The account is typically supported by hotel “bed tax” revenue, which is not currently being collected as the local hotel remains closed.

The council also approved a culvert policy, a state revolving loan application for water infrastructure improvements, and the consent agenda as presented.

Following a 10-minute executive session for personnel matters related to employee performance, the council approved pay increases and tier level adjustments for two employees: Matt Wright, who will receive a $3 increase as Chief Water Plant Operator, and Levi Lawrence, who will receive a $2 increase as Water and Sewer Superintendent.

The council also tabled a change order related to the Memorial Hall window restoration project, as BG Consultants plans to meet with the contractor before moving forward.

The Eureka City Council will hold its next meeting Monday, May 11, at 7 p.m. at the Eureka Public Library.
