The Eureka High School softball and baseball teams faced a challenging week, dropping multiple games in road matchups against Humboldt, Flinthills and Cherryvale.
On Monday, April 27 the softball team traveled to Humboldt for a doubleheader against the Cubs. Eureka had difficulty generating offense and containing Humboldt’s lineup, falling 0-10 in the opener and 4-15 in the second game.
The baseball team was also in action last Monday, traveling to Flinthills to take on the Mustangs. Despite competitive efforts, Eureka came up short in both contests. The varsity squad fell 6-13, while the junior varsity team dropped a 5-10 decision.
Both teams returned to the field Thursday, April 30 at Cherryvale, where tough competition continued. The softball team lost both games of their doubleheader, 2-13 and 1-16. The baseball team faced similar struggles against the Chargers, falling 1-16 and 0-12.
Eureka will look to regroup and improve as the season continues.
The Tornadoes will face Yates Center at home on Thursday, May 7 before traveling to Fredonia on Monday, May 11.
Tornado baseball is slated to compete in the Class 2-1A Regional 2 on May 14. Brackets will be seeded on May 9, with the top 16 teams making the bracket. The quarterfinal games for 2-1A will take place May 14 at the higher seed. The semifinals and finals will take place May 19 at the highest remaining seed (three games).The teams in the Regional 2 matchup include: Canton-Galva, Central Heights, Chase County, Crest, Eureka, Flinthills, Lebo-Waverly, Lyndon, Marais Des Cygnes Valley, Marion, Marmaton Valley, Moundridge, Northern Heights, Pleasanton, Remington, Southern Lyon County, Uniontown and Yates Center.
Eureka softball will compete in 2-1A Regional 2, May 18-20. Seeding will be held on May 13 with the top 16 teams making the bracket. The quarterfinal games for 2-1A will take place May 18 or 20 at the higher seed. The 2-1A semifinals and finals will take place May 20 or 21 at the highest remaining seed (three games). Teams competing in Regional 2 action include: Burlingame, Central Heights, Chase County, Crest, Eureka, Flinthills, Hillsboro, Lebo-Waverly, Lyndon, Marais Des Cygnes Valley, Marion, Northern Heights, Remington, Southern Lyon County, Uniontown and Yates Center.
