Eureka’s softball team traveled to Neodesha last Thursday, April 16, where they went 0-2 against the Bluestreaks, falling 2-14 and 3-7.
In game one, Eureka battled early but couldn’t overcome a big offensive surge from Neodesha. Despite the lopsided score, the Tornadoes found positives at the plate. Amorette Guillaume drove in both of Eureka’s runs, while Madelyn Miller and Brooke Johnson each collected two hits. Miller also added speed on the bases with two steals.
Eureka’s defense showed resilience at times, but a handful of costly errors allowed Neodesha to extend innings and build separation on the scoreboard. Pitcher Abbi Foth worked through tough situations in the circle, keeping her composure against a lineup that consistently applied pressure. Foth saw 31 batters, pitching 58 of 79 strikes. She allowed four earned runs, had one walk and struck out two.
The second game saw a more competitive effort from the Tornadoes. Eureka struck first and stayed within reach through the early innings, highlighted again by strong play from Miller, who drove in two runs. Johnson also recorded a hit for Eureka. The team also turned two double plays on defense. On the mound for Eureka were Foth and Milly Koop. Foth pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs and walking one. Koop allowed zero runs, walked three and struck out one.
