The Elk County Commission meets weekly on Mondays at 1 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved minutes of the March 30 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The regular meeting of the Elk County Commission was held on March 30 at 1 p.m. Commissioners approved the minutes from the March 9 meeting.
In Public Forum, elections suggestions were heard from a citizen and Don Sanders with Public Works noted that the Elk County Recycling Annual Household and E-Waste Collection will be held on June 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Moline Rodeo Grounds. It was stated that the Recycling Department will be closed April 1426.
Emergency Management Director Erica Cordell informed commissioners that the Fiscal Year 2026 thresholds for Public Assistance have been released. The threshold for Elk County is $12,067.38 and the State of Kansas is $5,699,240. Cordell also updated the commission on meetings she attended.
Commissioners approved the AID to Local grant application in the amount of $23,240. This replaces the AID to Local grant application in the amount of $16,360.40.
During the Public Works discussion, commissioners approved the hire of Lee Lampson at $19.75 per hour and the purchase of a 2023 Bomag Roller through Berry Tractor not exceeding $37,900 and leaving negotiations to Don Sanders for a lower purchase price.
Commissioners approved for Todd Winscher with Rural Fire to purchase a 55-gallon drum of foam in the amount of $1,500.
County Counselor Paul Dean informed the commission that a hearing was held on the Myers Road dispute and the courts were in favor of the county.
April was approved by the commission as Child Abuse Prevention Month through the Sunlight Child Advocacy Center and June was declared as Men’s Health Month for Elk County.
Discussion was held in reference to the property at 1285 Evergreen regarding the postponement due to the endangered burying beetle habitat and plans for the old window units that were taken out of the courthouse.
Other items approved included the Annual Peopleware Agreement through Computer Information Concepts in the amount of $31,455; the prepaid support contract renewal through Advantage Computers for $5,000 and Warrants in the amount of $390,234.03.
An executive session was held for non-elected personnel to discuss employee review to include Register of Deeds Stephanie Ollenborger and Dean. After returning to open meeting, a merit increase was approved for Lori Winscher from $18.70 per hour to $19.20 per hour.
Another executive session was held for legal with Dean. After returning to open meeting, it was approved for Dean to prepare and send a letter of opposition regarding SB534 to Virgil and Doug Blex.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:25 p.m. The next meeting of the Elk County Commission will be held on April 27 at 1 p.m.
