Madison City Council

The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the March 16 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.

The Madison City Council held their regular monthly meeting on March 16 at 7 p.m. The Agenda, March 2 meeting minutes and accounts payable were approved.

In Open Forum, it was noted that a load of gravel will be put down on 5th Street.

Clerk Alice Grimm presented the council with the new trash contract for Allied/Republic. It was noted that rates will be increasing from $18.54 to $25.07. The council discussed asking Steve’s Trash in Olpe to submit a bid. The council tabled the issue until the next meeting.

The demolition program paperwork was presented for 401 N. 5th, 423 S. 3rd and 514 SW Blvd. The council decided to put them out for bids. Once a bid has been accepted, the company has 90 days to complete the demolition.

The council approved a hay bid from Mary Fankhauser for 3 years at $4,005 per year, for a total of $12,015.

The council discussed pool applications. It was suggested to schedule interviews for the April 6 meeting after regular business.

Discussion was held by the council in regards to permits to build a well and procedures for abandoned houses.

Councilman Tony Fankhauser updated the council on skid steer pricing. One quote was for $96,796.49. T. Fankhauser stated he would get another quote from John Deere.

Updates were heard in regards to the generator; hauling gravel; doors that are needed; pool preparation; the siren and a project.

An executive session was held for 5 minutes. No decisions were made. (No subject was given for the Executive Session which is a violation of the Kansas Open Meetings Act, which could result in a fine of up

to $500 per commissioner per Executive Session violation.) The council held another executive session for 5 minutes for employee review. After returning to open session, no decisions were made.

The council noted that a special meeting may be called regarding the deputy clerk’s job.

The next meeting of the Madison City Council will be held on April 20 at 7 p.m.
