The Greenwood County Commission held a short weekly meeting on Monday, April 6, where they discussed routine business and approved a bid to replace the 20’x140’ dilapidated structure at Road and Bridge.
During old business, Sheriff Heath Samuels presented two bids for a 40’x140’ structure, which will be used by both the Road and Bridge Department and the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office. The first bid was from Koop Fence & Barn Construction for $65,000 and the second was from Knowles Construction for $61,750. The structure will be located on the northeast side of the county lot and will also serve as the boundary line for the impound lot. The new structure will allow both departments to have a lean-to option. The new structure will provide a reliable covered storage space for impounded property and county equipment; improved security as part of the impound lot perimeter; protection from weather, reducing damage, depreciation, and county liability; and a longterm, structurally sound replacement for a building that is no longer safe or functional. The commission approved the bid from Knowles Construction.
The commission reviewed a letter from the City of Eureka, regarding a zoning board hearing later this week. They also received an invitation to the Kansas Natural Resource Council (KNRC) dinner and information meeting on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. in Hutchinson.
Commissioners approved to renew its annual membership with the Kansas Association of Counties (KAC) for $372.46.
The March 30 meeting minutes and special payables for April 6, totaling $13,809.09, were approved as presented.
Emergency Management Director Levi Vinson reminded the commission that the flood risk review meeting for Greenwood County was planned for April 7, at 2 p.m. at the Eureka Public Library.
Commissioners discussed the possibility of adding cement to various road projects in the county that continue to wash out. Commissioner Roy Ballard noted that every time it rains, crews have to rebuild several areas and this could eliminate the repeat work.
Following a 10-minute break, the commission adjourned at 9:48 a.m. Their next meeting will be held on April 13, at 9 a.m. Following the meeting, the commission will hold the Eureka Township monthly meeting and a work session to discuss the pending pay scale.
