Members of the Eureka High School boys golf team opened their season at Caney on Monday, March 30. The team then went in two directions on Thursday, April 2, as golfers competed at Sedan and the Southern Lyon County (SLC) Invitational in Emporia.
At Caney
Participants competed at the Caney Golf Club, known as the “Home of the Dome,” due to its nine uniquely sloped greens and faced windy conditions for their first meet of the season.
A total of 70 golfers competed with Eureka placing ninth out of 13 eligible teams, with a team score of 437. Individual results were as follows: Wacey Ross, 103 (46,57), 35th; Mason Hughes, 105 (54,51), 39th; Maddox Hughes, 111 (59,52), 44th; Henry Perrier, 118 (60,58), 51st; Easton Mead, 123 (66,57), 56th; and Tyson Coon, 131 (63,68), 60th.
At SLC
Two Tornadoes traveled to the Emporia Golf Course for the SLC Invitational, where a total of 74 golfers competed in the 18-hole tournament.
Eureka’s Mason Hughes finished the round with a 95 (50/45) and placed 25th. Tornado Coon completed the round with a 129 (63/66) and finished in 67th.
At Sedan
Eureka’s Junior Varsity squad traveled to Sedan on Thursday, April 2 where Tornado freshmen Maddox Hughes, Ross, Caden Nusz and Perrier placed second place as a team, with a score of 205.
The Tornadoes were led by Maddox Hughes who claimed the individual championship with a nine-hole round score of 44. Eureka’s Ross placed seventh with a 78. Perrier placed 11th with a 52 and Nusz placed 20th with a 61.

Eureka will travel to Erie on Monday, April 13 before hosting their annual event on Wednesday, April 15, at 1 p.m.
