Eureka Tornado softball began its 2026 season last week, falling to Southern Lyon County (SLC) and West Elk last week.
Despite collecting more hits, the Eureka softball team came up short in a 4-12 loss to West Elk on Thursday, April 2.
Eureka outhit West Elk 10-9, with Taryn Burk, Madelyn Miller, Elyssa Wood and Milly Koop each recording two hits. Koop led the Tornadoes offensively, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs, including an RBI double that gave Eureka an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
West Elk quickly responded in the bottom of the first, taking the lead with a pair of two-RBI singles. The Patriots broke the game open in the third inning, scoring five runs.
Abbi Foth was on the mound for Eureka. She allowed 12 runs (five earned) on nine hits while striking out two and walking four.
The team didn’t keep score in the junior varsity game.
Against SLC
Eureka softball struggled against SLC on Monday, March 30, losing both games in the season opening doubleheader.
The Lady Tornadoes fell to SLC 1-13 and 0-20.
In game one, Eureka was unable to recover from an early deficit as SLC scored in each of the first three innings. Koop led the Tornadoes at the plate, going 2-for-2, while Amorette Guillaume drove in Eureka’s lone run. Foth pitched four innings, allowing 13 runs (five earned).
The second game proved even more difficult, as Eureka was limited to just one hit, a single by Miller, while SLC used big first and second innings to pull away early. Three Tornadoes took the mound for Eureka. Foth allowed 5 runs (four earned); Miller allowed 11 runs (two earned); and Arabella Shepherd allowed 4 runs (four earned).
