The crucifixion of Christ will be remembered during Holy Week, with special services being observed by the local churches. Easter is Sunday, April 5.
The Eureka Herald contacted local pastors and their churches in an effort to provide the following information on services and other happenings scheduled for this special season.
*The Greenwood County Ministerial Alliance’s Community Good Friday Service will be held at the Jefferson Street Baptist Church, located at 300 S. Jefferson Street, in Eureka on Friday, April 3 from 12-1 p.m. Pastor Jesse Burrus will be delivering the message. All churches and citizens are welcome to attend.
Bible Baptist Church 11th & Elm Streets
The Bible Baptist Church will host their annual Easter service on Sunday, April 5, at 11 a.m., with special music. Sunday School will be held at 10 a.m. The church will also hold evening services at 7 p.m.
Christ Lutheran Church 315 N. Elm, Eureka and Upper Fall River
Maundy Thursday service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) on Thursday, April 2, at 6 p.m. CLC will host Good Friday services on Friday, April 3, at 6 p.m. Easter SonRise service will be held at Upper Fall River (UFR) Church at 7 a.m. Easter service at CLC will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Christian Hills Church 1264 M50 Rd, Eureka
Christian Hills Church will offer breakfast from 9:3010:30 a.m., with worship beginning at 10:30 a.m. An Easter Egg Hunt for the kids will immediately follow the morning services.
Eureka United Methodist Church 521 North Main, Eureka
The Eureka United Methodist Church (UMC) encourages church members and guests to attend the CLC Maundy Thursday on April 2 at 6 p.m. and Good Friday Services on April 3 at 6 p.m.
Easter Sunday worship will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Greenwood County Catholic Churches Eureka Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hamilton St. John Catholic Church and Madison St. Teresa of Avila Holy Thursday Mass will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, at St. Teresa of Avila, with Good Friday services being held on Friday, April 3, at 3 p.m. at St. John and at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart.
Easter Mass will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 8 p.m. at Sacred Heart and on Sunday, April 5, at 8 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila; at 9:30 a.m. at St. John and at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart.
Hamilton Community Fellowship 214 E. Main Street, Hamilton Good Friday service will be held on April 3 at 7 a.m. The church will have a message on Redemption followed by an observance of the Lord’s Supper. The service will conclude with candle lighting and a hymn. On Easter Sunday, April 5, at 10 a.m., Hamilton Community Fellowship (HCF) will celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. All are welcome to join HCF for these special times of worship.
Jefferson Street Baptist Church 300 S. Jefferson, Eureka
The Jefferson Street Baptist Church (JSBC) will host their annual Easter service on Sunday, April 5, at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held at 9:30 a.m. JSBC also invites the community to join them o n Tuesdays for Ladies Bible Study at 9 a.m.; on Wednesdays for Bible Student and Children in Action at 6 p.m.; on Thursdays for Men’s Gathering at 6 p.m. and on the second and fourth Thursdays for Christian Jam at 6 p.m.
Hope Church 1201 N. Main, Eureka
Hope Church will host a Good Friday service on Friday, April 3, from 6-7 p.m. An Easter Sunday breakfast will be held at 9 a.m., followed by Worship service at 10:30 a.m. on April 5. The church will host an egg hunt following services.
Neal Evangelical Free Church (located on Highway 54 and Neal)
Neal Evangelical Free Church invites all to join them as they honor the Resurrection of Jesus Christ through the following services and events: On Friday, April 3, Good Friday Service: A Good Friday service entitled, “We Remember,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Come share this time to commemorate the death and burial of our Lord with song, the Word and Communion.
On Sunday, April 5, Easter Sunday: Sunrise Service will begin at 6:30 a.m., entitled, “He Is Risen, He Is Risen, Indeed,” at the Cross on the Neal Church grounds. Easter Breakfast will immediately follow and will be served in the Church basement. Easter Worship Service will be held at 10 a.m. The congregation will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus with the presentation: “What Really Happened, and Does It Matter,” including music and a message from the Word of God. Please note, no Sunday School classes will be held on Easter Sunday.
On This Rock 717 N. Main, Eureka
On This Rock will host a Good Friday service on Friday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m.
Piedmont United Methodist Church 80 J Road, Piedmont
The Piedmont UMC will host their Easter service on Sunday, April 5, at 9:45 a.m.
Climax, Neal & Toronto United Methodist Churches Easter services for Neal UMC will be held at 8:15 a.m., with the service following at 11:15 a.m. at Toronto UMC. The Climax UMC will not be holding services.
Reece Christian Church The Reece Christian Church will host Easter Sunrise service behind the fire station (located by the Reece school house) on Sunday, April 5 at 7 a.m. Breakfast will follow at the church. Easter Church Service will be held at 11 a.m. All are welcome.
