Rockin’ Robin!

Do you ever think about the things that you don’t see? Far too many times we hear people share how they would do another person’s job without fully understanding the various pieces involved. We should never judge a book by its cover, and that goes for all occupations, including the newspaper world. Just because something doesn’t appear in this week’s edition doesn’t mean the work wasn’t done. Many weeks we work on a multitude of items and many don’t come to life (and sometimes, never will) yet, there are countless emails and numerous phone calls made. The finished product, the final decision, or the public outcome is what people notice. What people don’t see are the drafts that were rewritten, the conversations that shaped direction, or the persistence it took to keep things moving forward. It may simply be that the article/ad isn’t ready for publication or simply that an article wasn’t merited. Either way, time and effort are still invested. Taking a step back has reminded me that this isn’t unique to my profession. Many fields rely on behind-the-scenes work that goes unseen but remains essential. It’s a perspective that encourages us to value not just what is visible, but also what quietly supports it. Because in the end, just because something isn’t visible doesn’t mean it isn’t important.
