Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and across Kansas, pinwheels are spinning as a reminder of what’s possible when communities come together to support children and families.

This year’s theme, Pinwheels of Possibility, celebrates the limitless potential of children when families have the support they need to succeed. At Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL), the Kansas chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, we see every day how early and ongoing support strengthens families before challenges become crises.

The pinwheel reminds us that families are at the center. Each turn represents the programs and everyday acts of care that help families thrive. When we address pressures families face, such as financial stress, mental and physical health needs and access to basic resources, we create conditions where children can grow up safe and full of possibility. That investment creates a ripple effect of prevention, improving outcomes not only for families today, but for generations to come.

This April, I invite Kansans to pause when you see a pinwheel. Let it inspire action and remind us that every child deserves safety, stability and hope.

Sincerely, Gail Cozadd CEO, Kansas Children's Service League
