Tanner Wade, a sixth grader at Marshall Elementary School in Eureka, represented Greenwood County on Saturday, March 21, at the Sunflower State Spelling Bee at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.
Wade was one of 105 spellers who qualified for the state competition, which lasted nine rounds. Kellian Peterson of Ottawa County claimed first place and will go on to represent Kansas at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, scheduled for May 26–28 at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.
Wade is the son of Clay and Melissa Wade of Eureka.
