Madison City Council

The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the Feb. 25 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.

The Madison City Council met on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. for their regular meeting. The council approved the agenda, Feb. 2 regular meeting minutes, water adjustments and accounts payable.

During open forum, Terri King approached the council regarding her interest in the open seat on the council. Mayor Paul Dean stated that the appointment to the council would be tabled until the next meeting. It was noted that if anyone was interested in serving on the council, to contact the city.

Marcie Harrison with The Madison News discussed running the ad for the deputy clerk in the Shopper for a few weeks. Mayor Dean noted that there are more applications that he has seen for a city position.

Clerk Alice Grimm provided a daily log as requested. The council approved to pay $498 for the yearly S.A.M. renewal and $40,118 for KCAMP contributions.

The council received two bids for the demolition of 520 Mulberry. The first was from Seimears in the amount of $7,450 and the other was from Knobloch in the amount of $4,900. The council approved the bid from Knobloch for $4,900.

Clerk Grimm provided the council with an update violation tracking sheet. Other items discussed were payment for the recreation center doors and animal control hours.

A lease-to-purchase bid was received for a skid steer. Councilman Tony Fankhauser stated he would get a bid from John Deere to present at a future meeting. Discussion was held regarding the repairs to the truck that was having issues.

The council discussed the resignation of Megan McGuire as the pool manager after 22 years of service.

Updates were given on street repairs, a gas leak, tax abatements, bids for doors at the camp grounds, break-ins at the storage closet at the ball field, tree trimming and mowing at the school and the ball field.

Discussion was held in regards to violations at 405 Hillside. It was noted that the Durable Power of Attorney (DPOA) lives in Las Vegas, Nev. It was noted that if DPOA does not take the opportunity to appear in person or via Zoom, a bench warrant could be issued. Mayor Dean noted that there is a possibility that the state could also suspend is driving privileges. It was noted that the council could offer an alternative to the DPOA to deed the property to the landbank and the council would correct the violations and the taxes if any are owed. Dean noted that the council would not take over any liens if the property was deeded to the landbank. It was also noted that the school district may be interested in that property.

Clerk Grimm informed the council that letters were sent to 405 S. 3rd and 601 N. 5th and the owners did not appear in court.

A trash issues was discussed. The council determined that the trash truck could drive on the new road to get to a trash can.

In old business, Fankhauser stated he would get with Foley for a bid for the generators.

The council held two five-minute executive sessions for personnel to discuss employment applications. No decisions were made after returning to open session.

The next meeting of the Madison City Council will be held on April 6 at 7 p.m.
