Eleven Area Wrestlers Qualified For State Tournament

A total of 11 area youth wrestlers will represent their organizations in Topeka this weekend, as they finished in the top four of their weight bracket at the District 2 Championships in Mulvane on Saturday, March 7.

Eureka Wrestling Club (EWC) will be represented by Killian Harrington (High School [HS]-285), Oaklyn Smith (8U-70); Maelyn Vinson (8U-100) Adleigh Ray (14U-115) and Lakyn McCoy (14U-148) at the state contest. McCoy and Vinson both claimed first place honors in their divisions. Harrington and Smith placed second and Ray placed third.

Elk County Wrestling (ECW) will be represented by Emma Baumgartel (HS115), Skylee Edwards (8U55), Pyper Ford (12U-130), Kyler Wunderlich (12U215), Raylan Wunderlich (12U-190) and Lakin Love (14U-120). Baumgartel placed second. Edwards, P. Ford, and K. and R. Wunderlich all placed third and Love placed fourth. A picture of ECW’s qualifiers was unavailable at the time of publication.

These eleven wrestlers will compete at the state contest in Topeka this Friday and Saturday.

Others representing EWC at Districts were Jad Day (8U-61), Elena McCoy (10U-110, placed 6th), Carter Winn (12U-80), Keon Jones (12U-105), Maddox Hughes (HS-126), Christian Sanchez (HS-126) and Mason Hughes (HS-138).

Others representing ECW at Districts were Beau Houchin (8U-61), Cora Houchin (10U-80), Maverick Ford (12U-88), Tabor Galvan (12U-130) and Autumn Love, 6th place (12U100, placed 6th).
