Coffee Shop Talk

:

A place for our readers to get to know each other!

(Editor’s Note: Each week, The Herald poses a “Question of the Week” on their facebook page with many responding. Comments made on the posts, may or may not be factual in nature and are to be noted as that person’s comment only.)

Each week The Herald will ask a random question, both on the opinion page of the weekly paper and on The Eureka Herald Facebook© page. Responses should be mailed to PO Box 590, Eureka, KS 67045, e-mailed to [email protected] with “Coffee Shop Talk” in the subject; dropped off at our office, 822 E. River, in Eureka or made on The Eureka Herald’s Facebook© page.

The “Question of the Week” for last week was: “What’s the first sign of spring you usually notice?”

Following are the responses: Emily Hansel* - “Clothing gets more revealing” Trystan Thompson* - “I look for that first robin every year (The bird, not the human) but my husband would say his allergies tell him.”

Chelsea Powell* “Tornado siren test….”

Cris Samuels* - “I get a sudden and uncontrollable urge to pull my golf bag out of the garage and clean my clubs because in my mind, that little bit of 4 month old mud on the club face would be the reason my approach shot went over and to the right of the green which then caused me to later 4 putt my way to the hole. At the same time while at work, I catch myself staring at my monitor and daydreaming about hitting the course, because I am absolutely convinced that this is the year I finally figured out how to fix my slice and stop chunking my irons over the winter off season.

I don’t need that fraud of a groundhog to tell me if spring is close or not. When the urge hits, I know spring is around the corner and I find that instinct to be 100% accurate every year.

Confucius say: “Hope springs eternal within the heart of man...until first tee shot of new season”.”

Kim Gorman* - “I used to look for the Robin Redbreast as a sign of Spring but this year the Robins never left! But my Crocus are up and that’s my sign this year” Trish Coon* - “Our hedges turning a green tint.”

Don Pennington* “Daffodils.”

Savannah Cline* “Seeing the rabbits in my backyard” Susan Epperson* - “Red buds on the trees.”

Daniel Knox* - “Lily’s start coming up” Donna Satterfield Drake* - “Green grass/ Returning birds” Kelly Kirkpatrick* “People cruising Eureka” Janet Thomson* - “My husband tilling the garden” Debbie Lawrence* “Redbuds” Shannon Draper Wools* “Daffodils” Debra Thackeray* “Robins.”

Wes Wunderlich* “Getting yelled at in daylight” Rob Beatty* - “Bugs...” Chris Hansel* “Mosquito” Msrjorie Morgan* “Jonquils popping up” Buddy Stitt* - “Robins” Jeff Zimmers* - “Ticks” Rodger Kraft* - “Theres ah few signs. Frogs croaking and buzzards return. And usually see humming birds start returning.”

Do you have a recommendation for the “Question of the Week” please send it to Robin at [email protected], or stop by 822 E. River St., Ste 100, in Eureka.
