A contractor will begin work this week on replacing a box culvert on K-99 in Greenwood County, conditions permitting, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). The box culvert for Homer Creek drainage is at the intersection of 190th Street and K-99, which is three miles north of U.S. 54. The project is expected to be completed in September.
The contractor will first build a two-lane shoo-fly on the east side of the box culvert to maintain traffic flow at a reduced speed through the work zone. Flaggers may be guiding traffic at times during construction, and motorists should expect minor delays.
The new culvert will be 90 feet long and 36 feet wide. It’s replacing a smaller culvert built in 1920. The new culvert will have 12foot driving lanes and 6-foot shoulders.
B&B Bridge Company LLC, of St. Paul, has the $1,156,315 primary contract.
KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones.
