Each month I want to provide you with regular updates about what’s going on in our nation’s capital and throughout the 4th District of Kansas. Here’s what happened in February.
Discussing Foreign Influence in American Non-Profits The Committee on Ways and Means held a hearing to question witnesses about malign foreign interference in our nonprofit sector. Preventing American taxpayers from unknowingly funding bad actors is essential in today’s society. I questioned the witnesses and discussed the importance of having intense scrutiny in this space so legitimate nonprofits can continue to serve the American people.
Recently, two Chineselinked groups have banded together to advance the defunding of ICE and attack law enforcement, after receiving thousands of dollars from the Chinese Communist Party. Since 2018, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) has received at least $445,969 in donations from people and organizations controlled by the Chinese government.
These funds have been used to directly create conflict in our society. Addressing these abuses and risks proactively and preventing them from escalating has been an issue I remain committed to addressing.
Congressional Art Competition Dates
High school students in the 4th District can now submit artwork for consideration in the Congressional Art Competition, a nationwide contest for high school students sponsored by Members of the House of Representatives.
I encourage all high school students in our district to enter and be part of this fun and unique competition. I’m looking forward to once again hosting this event and seeing the work that will represent the Sunflower State in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The deadline to submit artwork is Tuesday, March 31, 2026. All artwork submissions that meet the competition criteria will be displayed at Mark Arts in Wichita from April 10 to May 2. The winning artwork will be framed and shipped to Washington, D.C., to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year along with other winners from around the country.
Students can learn more and register at estes. house.gov/art.
Working Families Tax Cuts Website To help Kansas families and small businesses stay informed, I launched a website with detailed information on the Working Families Tax Cuts.
On this website, you can explore some of the provisions that will benefit you and your family, including tax cuts for families, workers, seniors, and small businesses.
You can visit the website by going to estes.house. gov/taxcuts.
State of the Union
In February, the president addressed Congress to lay out his agenda and provide an assessment of the state of our nation. It was an honor to listen to President Trump talk about all of the accomplishments we have produced so far by putting America first. In the past year, Republicans have produced a great deal of results, and will continue to put America first.
The President is optimistic – in July we passed the Working Families Tax Cuts, providing savings for hard-working Americans and preventing the largest tax hike in history. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we will continue to advance pro-growth, pro-family policies. I’m proud of what we have done for the Sunflower State and will continue to fight for Kansans.
