Britta Mongeau Held Special Signing Event Last Tuesday

After years of dedication, Lady Tornado senior Britta Mongeau has signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Emporia State University (ESU), where she will compete in Cross Country as well as Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field as a Hornet.

Mongeau’s dream of competing at the collegiate level became clear following her junior year cross country season at State. After that experience, she knew she wasn’t ready for her running journey to end with high school.

She committed to Emporia State University and will proudly represent the Hornets. From the very first visit, the program stood out. “During my first visit with the coaches, I felt so comfortable around them,” Mongeau said. “They took the time to get to know me personally and made me feel as though I had a home at ESU. They’ve put a great amount of money towards their running department to focus on the athletes highest physical potential,” she continued. Mongeau is drawn to the mental toughness required in both cross country and track. “I love how both sports are such mental sports and that it truly is only you out there pushing yourself,” she said. “I love the adrenaline it gives me and testing new limits each meet.” At the collegiate level, she will compete in the women’s 6K during cross country season and plans to run the 1500-meter race and the steeplechase during track season.

In addition to her athletic goals, Mongeau plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance and hopes to build a career in kinesiology.

Her high school career has been filled with impressive accomplishments. In cross country, she made three State appearances and placed 13th in the 5K at the 2024 State meet. In track, she qualified for State twice and earned 5th place in the 1600-meter run at the 2025 State meet. She also helped set the school record in the 4x400-meter relay and was part of the TVL Champion Track team in 2023.

Mongeau is the daughter of Brian and Vandetta Mongeau of Eureka She is the granddaughter of Jay and Pam Mongeau of Salina and David and Goldana Shrum of Topeka.
