Ten students from Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EJSHS) were inducted as new members of the National Honor Society (NHS) in a ceremony held at the school on Wednesday, Feb. 18. To be eligible for membership consideration, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 and must meet high standards of service, leadership, and character. Only sophomores, juniors and seniors may be evaluated and selected by the faculty members for induction.
Those students inducted were: Senior Miley Baumgartel; Juniors, Stacy Alford, Henry Pfister and Alicia Sanchez; and Sophomores, Reata Bogle, Jersey Cox, Sydney Lindamood, Karsyn Osborne, Sadie Seiter and Arabella Shepherd.
Leadership is based on the student’s participation in two or more community or school activities, or election to an office. To meet the service requirement, the student must have been active in three or more service projects in the school and community office. Character is measured in terms of integrity, behavior, ethics and cooperation with both students and faculty.
“We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body. National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community,” said Calisa Marlar-Hall, chapter adviser.
The EJSHS has been active since the midnineties. The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students, with chapters in more than 16,000 high schools. Since 1921, millions of American students have been selected for membership.
