The Madison Bulldogs hosted the Chase County Bulldogs on Tuesday, Feb. 17, with the teams splitting victories.
Despite holding the lead for the majority of the contest, the Lady Bulldogs of Madison lost by 3. The Madison men claimed a 60-47 victory.
In the girls game, Madison held a narrow 7-6 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 21-13 by halftime. The Lady Bulldogs of Madison continued to build their advantage in the third quarter, leading 28-19 heading into the final period. Chase County rallied late, outscoring Madison 4-16. Madison lost the contest 32-35. Scoring for Madison were Sadie Albert 11, Caylin Luthi 6, Kam White 4, Molly Dannels, Rylee Darbro and Bayleigh Benjamin all with 3 and Jenna Thomsen 2.
In the boys game, Madison pulled ahead early with a 15-13 first-quarter lead and carried a slim 31-30 advantage into halftime. The Bulldogs of Madison gained separation in the second half, outscoring Chase County 29-17 over the final two quarters to secure a 6047 win. Scoring for Madison were Octavian Dean 31, Brayden Grimmett 17, Lane Smith and Cooper Luthi each with 5 and Javier Alba Mendez 2.
The Madison Bulldogs now gear up for sub-state action, serving as a host for a Class 1A DI Championship sub-state. The Madison Ladies (#7, 12-8) will host Fairfield (#10, 9-12, on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to semifinal action and face Pretty Prairie (#2, 18-2) at Pretty Prairie on Monday, March 2, at 6 p.m.
The Bulldog men (#6, 14-6) hosted Skyline (#11, 5-16) on Monday of this week. The winner will advance to the semifinals and will face Little River (#3, 19-1) on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.
