In celebration of Youth Art Month, the Kansas Art Education Association (KAEA) is sponsoring a student art show at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library from February 24-March 28. The annual event highlights the creativity and talent of young artists from across the state of Kansas.
KAEA invited art educators statewide to select one artwork for each grade level they teach to be displayed in the show. This year, Eureka Junior/Senior High School’s art teacher, Mrs. Anderson, selected two pieces to represent her program.
Senior Hunter Olsen’s Brown Roman Vase, crafted on the potter’s wheel, and sevventh grader Bronwyn Hall’s Still Deer with Marigolds, drawn in oil pastels, were selected.
Visitors to the exhibit will have the opportunity to support their favorite young artists by voting for the People’s Choice Award. In addition to this honor, several other awards will be presented during the show.
Community members are encouraged to attend, view the artwork, and cast their vote before March 21. A closing reception will be held on March 28 at 1 p.m. to celebrate the students’ achievements.
The library is located at 1515 SW 10th Ave. in Topeka. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
